Melanie Jame Wolf is an artist living and working in Berlin since 2011. She works with text, choreography, sculpture, and moving image to make pieces for stage, screen, and gallery spaces. Her work examines economies and entanglements of power and immaterial capital. It pursues an ongoing interest in analysing the idea of performance-as-labour in artistic, popular entertainment, and everyday contexts. Her practice often focuses on specific performance techniques, for example: impersonation, rehearsal, or stand up - using this strategy as a lens to analyse broader political currents wherein performance is understood as a means of survival and an engine for fluidity of subjectivity. Her work has been shown at spaces including: Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Sophiensaele, Carriageworks, VAEFF - Video Art and Experimental Film Festival NYC, Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, and Institute of Modern Art Brisbane.
